C4C: Counselors for Computing with NCWIT

July 6-8 online.

 

Join counselors from Virginia, DC, and Maryland with the National Center for Women in technology to learn about careers, courses, and concerns about broadening participation in computer science and cybersecurity.

Presentation Topics:

  • Equity and Access to computer for school counselors
  • Cybersecurity, opportunities, and options
  • The state of computing in Maryland
  • The impact of school counselors and guiding students to AP CS
  • Student panel sharing experience from Morgan State
  • Opportunities for students: DoD, Aspirations in Computing, etc.
  • Technolochicas and Reinvented Magazine
  • Males as allies
  • Tour of free resources

Break out group conversations:

  • Discussions by grade level: elementary/middle/high
  • Discussions by state: VA, MD, DC
  • Sharing ideas and concerns

Schedule:

  • 9:30-11:20 and 1:30-2:20 synchronous each day (everyone online together in large or small breakout groups)
  • 11:20-1:00 lunch and health break
  • 1:00-1:20  time to connect by region or grade level

CPD Credit:

  • Earn 0.5 CPD credits for attending.
