Would you like to earn an endorsement to teach computer science in Maryland?

Thanks to a generous grant from Microsoft, Maryland is able to offer a program to current public school teachers to receive a $1,000 award for participating in our CS certification program and passing the Praxis 2 CS exam. You must apply and be accepted into the program to earn the award.

Teacher participant requirements:

  1. Be a certified public school teacher in Maryland who has already taught at least one year of computer science at the middle or high school level and will teach CS again next year.
  2. Sign up to become a certified secondary CS teacher (MCCE )
  3. Attend a 1-day workshop and do the online Praxis prep course. (you may attend as many repeat sessions as you would like - see below for dates)
  4. Pass the CS Praxis 2 exam

You will receive a $1,000 stipend if you complete this.

All teachers are invited to attend one of the 1-day Praxis preparation workshops.

Additional consideration will be given to teachers who have:

  1. taught more than 1 year of computer science in Maryland
  2. definite plans to teach CS in a Maryland public school next year.
  3. experience at a high school level (some middle school will be accepted)
  4. principal and/or district recommendation.
  5. taught in rural districts, urban districts, or are from underrepresented groups.

If districts want to pay teachers a stipend to attend the 1-day workshop, they can do that with their MCCE funding, but it is optional since teachers will earn a reward for their time.

1-day in-person workshop dates;

  • July 26 Waldorf Higher Education Center
  • July 30th Eastern Shore
  • August 6th Shady Grove
  • August 8th Largo, UMUC
  • additional dates will be added in the fall if there is sufficient demand.
