What we do in Middle School

Computational Learning/ Thinking (CL/T) and Computer Science tools and resources used in Middle Schools in Maryland

Find resources for:

In Maryland Middle Schools, CL/T is included in courses for grades 6-8 and in many different contexts. It is often included in computer science or technology courses. School systems are also integrating CL/T into different disciplines among them 8th grade science.  One system has created Scratch projects that integrate with a quarter long unit, and one system uses a Discovery Education Ignite my Future unit and mBots in combination with their science curriculum. Another system has integrated CT/L in a Business course and another in Media Arts. There are courses in development integrating CL/T in Fine Arts and almost certainly in other disciplines as well. Regardless of how or where it is taught, it is important to have students be aware of the processes that are involved in CT/L and how to apply them to a variety of situations.

ESSA requirements in Maryland include offering a CT/L course to every middle school student.
