Frostburg Program for CS in Education

Frostburg has been introducing computational thinking and computer concepts into their Education programs since 2019. 

Program Levels: primary, secondary

Kinds of Programs: undergraduate program, graduate program, certificate or alternate certification

How CS is infused into Education: degree program for CS/CT, integrated into content classes, integrated into methods classes, integrated into multiple courses, providing out of school experiences for K-12 students

Who does it reach? All education students in the insitution

Who is part of the collaboration? Local school systems, PK-12 classroom teachers, community college, 4-year college, between departments in our institution

Description of the strategy to infuse CS/CT into education programs: Complementary to the bottom-up approach, I take a top-down approach to CS integrations in the K12 space. I believe that everyone will benefit when we get professors on board with the importance of CS in their college courses. In turn, all of the pre-service teachers will be ready to teach CS in their classroom and help inform others at their school. My goal is to help individuals understand that the students they are teaching today will be working alongside AI, ML, robots, etc., no matter what path they take after graduating high school.
